CPA Exam Pattern
Each of the exam sections (FAR, AUD, REG, BEC) comprises of five smaller sections which are called testlets. Each of the testlets tests different items types in order to test the knowledge and skills of the candidates. There are three different types of exam items that will appear within the specific test lets in each section
1) Multiple choice questions (MCQs):These will be presented in the first two testlets of each exam section
2) Task Based Simulations (TBS):
These are in the form of case studies. There would be 3 TBS testlets in AUD, FAR and REG exam sections and 2 TBS testlets in the BEC section
3) Written Communications Tasks:
These appear only in the BEC section and would be in the form of a memo/ letter.

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is an USA-based accounting designation awarded to candidates who pass the CPA examinations, have relevant experience and meet other state requirements (varies at a state level). It is equivalent to a Chartered Accountant (CA) in India.
No, a candidate can appear for CPA examinations in India as well by scheduling with partner firms like VGLD who have authorized relationships with US-based institutions.
Currently, CPA exam centers are located in seven cities across India – Gurgaon, Ahemdabad, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Chennai and Trivandrum.
CPA examinations are administered by the AICPA (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants). AICPA is the world’s largest accounting body. CPA license is, however, issued by the 55 state boards in USA that are a part of the NASBA. Each board has a different eligibility criteria that a candidate needs to fulfil.

Eligibility criteria for CPA varies across the 55 states registered under NASBA. Below are the common requirements –
- Bachelor’s degree in any stream of Commerce, Accounting, Finance, Science or Arts
- Candidate needs 120 CPE credits to take CPA examinations and 150 CPE credits to get a CPA license
Candidates from across educational streams including students who have done engineering courses are eligible for a CPA license as long as they have 120 CPE credits to appear for CPA examinations.
Each paper is for a period of four hours with 50% MCQ-based questions and 35-50% simulation and written-type questions.
Due to the covid-19 pandemic, CPA exams in India will be held only for the months of June and September’2020. We are hopeful that the CPA exam testing in India will continue in the near future and that the testing period will be further extended. You will be updated with respect to any further developments in this regard.

No, there are no exemptions offered to Indian CA’s as currently there is no MoU between ICAI & AICPA to recognize each other’s members.
Yes, candidates across all levels of CA course are eligible to appear for CPA examinations.
CPA course is spread across only 4 papers which can be completed within only one year. Meanwhile, a CA course has 20 papers and takes around 4.5 years to complete.
CPA exam fee is USD 950; international testing fee (to appear for CPA in India) is USD 1510; foreign academic credentials evaluation fee is USD 225. These are all payable to US boards for various processes.
VGLD separately charge each student a sum of INR 99,000 + GST to for exam preparations.
VGLD fees includes original and authorised Becker Study Material for 24 months; weekend classes; guidance on evaluation, examination ; CPA License assistance and Job Placement Assistance.
